BLESSTHEFALL
The Underworld,
Camden

Having previously supported Asking Alexandria to an audience
four times the size of tonight’s, it may well seem Blessthefall have taken one step forward and two steps back.
“I know there’s a bigger show around the corner so thank you
for choosing to be with us” declares a humble Beau Bokan, acknowledging a band
bred from a much different genre but of perhaps more success. But it’s not quantity
that will see either band 10 albums down the line. It’s quality. And
Blessthefall have that well under wraps, exploding onto the stage with You Wear
A Crown But You’re No King off this years head-turning, chart smashing; Hollow
Bones. Before signalling fans into crowd surfing duties, with the albums
opening track Exodus.
2011’s Awakening still has a place in the Blessthefall camp,
with The Reign, Bottomfeeder and Promised Ones seeing the light of day as a
circle pit tournament invades the room left, right and centre. “This feels like
home. Lets play here every weekend- every Saturday!” suggests the vocalist
amongst waves of hands grabbing up at him.
It’s this frontman’s victorious showmanship and modesty that
will see them push forward without having to be the face on magazine covers, or
changing their sound in exchange for more radio plays. What’s really impressive
is their solid following, the ones Beau dedicates Guys Like You Make Us Look
Bad to, a track piled under various member changes still sounding very much the
five piece here tonight.
It wouldn’t be a Blessthefall show without the airing
of Hey Baby, Here’s That Song You Wanted acting as the backdrop to their
departure for the time being.
They may have drawn the short straw for now, but their
journey is a marathon not a sprint and bets are they’re on track to headline
a venue four, if not five times bigger.
